EIGHT REASONS TO WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
HOW WRITING DOWN YOUR GOALS HELPS YOU ACHIEVE THEM
INCREASES YOUR MOTIVATION
Writing down your goals, and revisiting and looking at them has been proven to increase your chances of actually completing your goals. Looking at your list of goals brings motivation to complete them. It also reminds you that you’re on the path to achievement which is a great daily motivator.
IMPROVES RECALL
Writing things down is sometimes the only way to remember them. The same can be true about goals. We’re not necessarily saying that you’ll completely forget what your goal is if it’s not written down somewhere, but all the nuances, steps, and reasons behind can be quite difficult to recall if they’re not written down.
CONCENTRATES YOUR EFFORTS
We are both quite easily distracted. It’s far too easy to get waylaid with something that comes up that day, or something that’s a little more exciting. Having your goals (and actions and steps towards them) written down concentrates you back to what is important and what gets you closer to what you want.
MAKES YOUR GOALS CONCRETE
To make it real, write it down. Talking about goals is a great start but when you commit to paper is when the work actually begins. By writing down your goals you are committing to working on them, making them way more concrete.
HELPS YOU TAP INTO YOUR FULL POTENTIAL
Having your goals written down actually creates a shift in your mindset. By looking at what you are wanting to achieve you find yourself coming up with new, creative ways to get there. By writing down your goals and revisiting, you can often find that you are inspired to do something completely new, something you had no idea that you were capable of because you are now putting your goals front and centre of your day. This propels you to new levels of potential.
BRINGS CLARITY
Having goals written down brings you clarity in what you are working towards in life. It solidifies a sense of purpose and reminds you of who and what you are working on, bringing a daily sense of peace in your purpose.
ENHANCES HOPE
Having goals written down literally makes you more hopeful. It makes you realise that there are things in your future that you can work towards and when you are having a bad day, or feel a little lost – it reminds you that you are on your own path.
SETS BOUNDARIES BETWEEN WISHES AND GOALS
Wishes are very very different from goals. We can wish for a lot of stuff, and in some ways work for that too. But by having your goals purposefully written down you can set boundaries between what is wishful thinking, and what is an attainable goal that you should put time, effort, and resources into.
