WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN YOUR CREATIVE STACK

WE'LL SHOW YOU EXACTLY WHAT TOOLS AND PROGRAMMES YOU NEED FOR YOUR CREATIVE TEAM

The rise of SASS companies, and the overwhelming amount of options for tools is quite hard to navigate, don’t worry, this week we’re going to strip it down and tell you exactly what to look for in your creative stack.

A CREATIVE PRODUCT THAT SCALES

Something that can have licenses added and taken away, is used across different countries and continents and can be cloud based.

A STORAGE SYSTEM THAT'S SAFE

Not just google, much as I love google as a product, you need a storage system that is not only encrypted but also password protected. We use Iconik which is not only safe in terms of access, but also safe in terms of back ups (through back blaze) and client access. With the ability to restrict downloads, and mark IP usage, a storage system that protects your content is something you need to look for.

A USER FRIENDLY SHARING AND FEEDBACK TOOL

No one wants to share content with a client when they simply cant see how to feedback. There are plenty of feedback tools on the market, my advice – go for the simplest one possible. Comments and timestamps are all you really need for client feedback, luckily ours is inbuilt with our storage system, very much two birds with one stone.

A SIMPLE TRACKING AND INFORMATION SYSTEM

I’m not going to use this as another opportunity to bang on about notion (although I could do) but there are so many tracking tools on the market that are all bells and whistles, and what you really need is a simple Kanban tool that has the ability to store information that can be personalised to your teams needs. No one has made a complete out the box solution for project management that covers all needs of a team meaning a lot of companies have to stack more SASS options. Go for one that can be customised to your teams needs as it’s never going to be the same as another team.

A STRONG COMMUNICATION TOOL

I’m aware that I have a love hate relationship with Slack, and I’m pretty sure this is mirrored across a lot of communication tools, but the best part of slack is schedule send. We work across multiple time zones and to be honest it’s just going to get lost if you message someone in the middle of their night. Having a communication tool that allows you to schedule send, but also read and remind on messages is a life saver for productivity.

A FINANCIAL TOOL WITH GATEKEEPING

So financial tools aren’t the most exciting, but giving your team the freedom to manage their own budgets and also allowing you to track from a more senior level is liberating and also productive! When picking a financial tool, work closely with your finance team to understand how the business works and the best way you can feed into it. Our choice, spendesk, also allows our teams to have their own physical cards so you’re not putting more junior members of staff into any uncomfortable positions with expenses.

So that’s a breakdown of what you need to look for, something for each aspect of your output – don’t overcomplicate. Have ONE tool for each thing, and don’t multi-stack or deviate unless it’s time to scale and reassess YOU NEED

1. Creative SASS product(s) (*the only thing that can be multiples)*
2. Storage and File Organisation
3. Feedback
4. Project Management
5. Communication
6. Finance
