GOAL SETTING

Setting goals is such an important part of making your days better. By setting goals we have something to work towards, a sense of purpose and ultimately and sense of achievement. Sometimes we set goals that are based around happiness, sometimes they are based around our careers, and, quite often, they are based around making Good Mornings successful. If you don’t have a set idea of what you want to achieve, having a goal may seem a little out of reach, but here are a few tips on goal setting, especially if you’re not sure what you want to be working towards.
1. Think about what you want to do with your life. If you could wake up somewhere where would that be, if you close your eyes and think of yourself in five years – what does that look like? What are you doing in your vision, where are you living, how do you look?

2. Create your big picture -your future state of what you want from life by writing down a few things that are reflected in your vision.

3. From your big picture, pull out milestones, targets and goals

4. Understand which feed into each other (mini goals into overriding goals)

5. Break these bigger goals down into smaller targets

6. Add your big goals into a tracker (our Good Mornings Guide has this set up perfectly for you to use)

7. Add in any tasks you need to complete to achieve your goals (this can be a WIP, you don’t have to exhaust all the tasks now, your goals are living, breathing, moving things)

8. Set yourself dates to achieve your goals (there is a date field in each goal card as part of our Good Mornings Guide)

To help further when thinking about your goals, from your vision it helps to make sure you are creating SMART goals:

S – Specific (or Significant).

M – Measurable (or Meaningful).

A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented).

R – Relevant (or Rewarding).

T – Time-bound (or Trackable).

It also helps to use POSITIVE language when creating your goals, and make sure you are creating goals that are precise, measurable and ultimately achievable.
