We’ve said this before but read, read anything from a blog post to a magazine or the entire Oxford Dictionary. Reading instead of turning on the TV is such a better way to start the morning. I used to wake up between 6:30-7 and the first thing I would do would be to go to the front room and find the latest thing I was binging on Netflix. Now I make a conscious effort to read at least a chapter before turning on the TV, no matter how tempting. I have just rejoined a library having moved during lockdown and I’ve got a list as long as my arm to get through!

Morning Pages. Some of you will have used this, some of you will have never heard of this. If you have read The Artist’s Way then you will know all about Morning Pages. This is the practice of writing, free form, for a few pages each morning. There are no themes, there are no parameters, you just write whatever comes into your head. It’s a great way of unjumbling everything that’s been rattling around in your head overnight, sorting your thoughts, and getting everything out of the way to have an uncomplicated day.

Let’s have a good morning being mindful. We will cover meditation later on, but let’s start small. So small all you have to do is brush your teeth. We challenge you to be mindful this morning just while you are doing something that is so habitual we run on autopilot. So why not try to brush your teeth mindfully. Notice what’s around you, feel yourself in the moment and really focus on what you are actually doing

Exercise in the morning seems like a bit of a no brainer, but there is a reason why it’s a great addition to a morning routine. Exercising in the morning may be a better match for your body’s cortisol levels; this hormone that keeps you awake and alert an be increased through exercise, making you more alert and awake.

COLD SHOWERS, not first on everyone’s list for a good morning, but actually a cold shower is one of the best ways to start the day. The cold water increases your oxygen intake your heart rate and your alertness, giving you a jump start to the day. And ladies with hair as frizzy as mine – the cold water actually helps your hair cuticles lie flat; to reduce the flyaway hair.
