A QUICK GUIDE TO MORNING ROUTINES
We look at where the idea of the morning routine comes from, and answer some key questions.
Now let’s address the biggest point we want to stand by. We’ve all seen other people’s ‘miracle mornings’. Ones, where Mark Wahlberg gets up at 2, am, exercises for 19 hours, eats for 3, exercises for another 4 then goes back to bed and gets up 3 hours later. Some people might look at that and truly believe that if you want to be at your peak this is what it takes. This is not only unsustainable but also a very stark example that what works for one person doesn’t work for everyone. The biggest thing to keep in mind on this journey is that while we are here for inspiration and information; you are you.
You are an individual with different goals, reactions, and needs. Take on all the information available, take inspiration from other people’s good mornings, but remember that this isn’t about other people’s mornings. It is about you.

WHERE DID THE IDEA COME FROM?
Morning routines have always existed. You already have one, the way you get up and go about your day is already your routine. But it was probably with the release of ‘The Miracle Morning’ in 2012 that we really started paying attention. Humans naturally fall into routines; think about how easy it is to brush your teeth, shower, and leave the house, but this new interest in how we can make these actions and habits more impactful for the rest of the day is where the idea of perfecting a morning routine came from.
WHY DOES A MORNING ROUTINE WORK?
A morning routine works, in theory, because it sets you up for the rest of the day. By maximising the potential of your morning; you are setting the tone for the rest of the day. It works as it allows us to bring control to our schedules.
WHAT DOES A MORNING ROUTINE INCLUDE?
It includes things that are meaningful to you personally. When we look at a morning routine; we include elements of our values, goals, things that make us happy, and our core daily tasks. This is not a finite formula, but including these four main themes in your morning routine will mean that you are not only making the most of your morning but moving forward on your goals; getting 1% better every day.
HOW DO YOU IMPLEMENT A MORNING ROUTINE?
One word SLOWLY. It’s great to have ideas, to take prompts from other people’s routines, and to think about what would work for you. But the worst thing to do is to try to do everything at once. New habits are hard to implement. Forget the 21-day rule, it’s more like three months before everything slips into place and action becomes a habit. If you try and take on more than one new habit at a time, trust us, you will get overwhelmed and it won’t stick. This is all about building sustainable change so think small. What is a small tweak you can make, a little change? What is the most important focus for you and how do you introduce this slowly until it becomes second nature. Working up to your perfect morning is the most sustainable way to make it stick, so start small and build up.
HOW DO YOU KNOW YOUR MORNING ROUTINE IS WORKING?
You will know your morning routine is working when you naturally flow through it. When you feel accomplished, productive but most of all happy. It will take a while to fully change your mornings, but enjoy every step of the journey and when you find happiness in your mornings, is when you know you’re having good mornings!
